Balenciaga structured dress
May 5th, 2008 by laila
How genius is the dress? The silhouette is simply amazing, wearing it would be like wearing an amour. But I can totally see how the structure works with the curves of a woman’s body— the enhanced hips and shoulders, the waistline…
An unforgettable little black dress.

Marni ruffled hearts bag
April 25th, 2008 by laila
I have always love Marni’s clothes & accessories because they are versatile, practical and effortlessly chic. But I don’t know about these:
Funny that these ruffled creations are actually by Marni because it is really dramatic and bold. The bag reminds me of corals you see in the sea, or just loads of bright orange flowers blooming (it is from the FALL collection by the way). But whatever, I am definitely not a big fan of the choice of colour and shape.
Would you carry it?

The new season’s colourblocking
April 19th, 2008 by laila
It doesn’t mean that Fall is all about dark tones. You can go all black or grey for the cold season but bright and bold accessories like these suede shoes & bags can do wonders to your entire ensemble. My pick is the Louboutin clutch. The unique shape and the colour— simply eye-catching.

Trendspotting: hammer pants
April 12th, 2008 by laila
Nina Ricci and Louis Vuitton, Fall 08′
The Sartorialist examples
Seeing that this is a big trend for Fall 08′, I am currently on the look out for hammer pants. I like the fact that it looks very comfy. If you match it well with say, a cool jacket, it can make you look rather chic. One problem I have with hammer pants is that it might not be very flattering to my legs (hello fat thighs!) and it only looks good if a tight top is tucked into it.
The Nina Ricci one is unique because it is in satin and have a lot of folds while the Louis Vuitton ensemble (so Marc Jacobs by the way) is— strictly for tall stylish women who can pull off it off.
What do you think?

Giambattista Valli shoes
April 9th, 2008 by laila
I love the shape of these. They are adorable and yet glamourous because of the sky-high heels. I can totally picture celebs like Dita von Teese in a pair of those, but I am quite surprised for the fact that not much celebs have donned these gorgeous platforms. My favourite s the one in green— the rosette infront is simply darling.

Singapore Fashion Festival wrap-up
April 4th, 2008 by laila
The biggest show of all has to be Matthew Williamson’s. Supermodel Erin O’Connor opening the show for him exclusively. I didn’t managed get any tickets but was lucky enough to have friends who went there. Apparently, the atmosphere is way different from the ones from the four big capitals. Guests/audiences got to sit around a table and enjoy a meal— funny to hear about that.
The closing show is cK Calvin Klein. Other big name designers showcasing at SFF inculde Carlos Miele and Ashley Isham.
